It is the southernmost mosque in continental Europe and one of the largest mosques in a non-Muslim country. It was built as a gift from King Fahd of Saudi Arabia in 1997 and serves the Muslim community in Gibraltar, which is about 4% of the total population.
The mosque has a school, library, and lecture hall, and is open to the public during the day. The mosque is a symbol of the religious diversity and harmony of Gibraltar.
