Minnesota University Official Highlights Quran Competitions’ Role in Encouraging Youths to Memorize Quran

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Waleed al-Maneese, the vice president of the Islamic University of Minnesota in the US, said Quranic competitions play an important role in encouraging teenagers and youths to memorize the Holy Book.

Al-Maneese, who is among the Quran experts from different countries serving in the arbiters panel of an international Quran competition underway in Hamburg, Germany, said in an interview that such Quranic events help promote learning and teaching the Quran in the Muslim society.

He cited a Hadith from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that says, “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Quran and teach it.”

Hailing the organization of the competition in Germany, he referred to the seditions that Muslim youths are exposed to in the West and underlined the need for holding more such events in Western countries.

Al-Maneese thanked the organizers and those contributing to it and said Muslim should support and encourage such activities.

The international Quran competition kicked off in Hamburg on Friday and will conclude today.

Quran memorizers from 33 countries have taken part in the international event, organized by the An-Nour Quran Memorization Institute affiliated to Kuwait Islamic charity society.

They compete in four categories of memorization of five Juzes (parts) of the Quran for those aged sixteen and younger, memorization of ten Juzes for those aged between 16 and 18, memorization of 15 Juzes for those under 25 and memorization of the entire Quran for those under 30 years of age.

Other members of the competition’s panel of arbiters include Ahmed al-Asrawi from Egypt, Hafiz Shaheen from Turkey, Samir Khaled Rajab who heads the An-Nour Quran Memorization Institute, and Sheikh Hisham al-Azimi from Morocco.
