An Iraqi soldier was killed and several others were injured in the attack, security and inteleligence sources said, RT Arabic reported.
The base is near the village of Habash south of Baghdad, the sources said.
The terrorists fired shots at the guards in a checkpoint at the base, they added.
It came after a ringleader of Daesh in Iraq was killed in an airstrike in eastern Syria.
Moataz Numan Abdel Nayef Najm al-Jabouri was killed in the airstrike in Syria’s Deir ez-Zour province.
Known as “the governor of Iraq”, he was the associate leader of the terrorist group for provinces affairs and was responsible for planning and coordinating external terrorist operations.
