Online Program to Commemorate Late Egyptian Qari Muhammad Sidiq Minshawi
Slated for Wednesday, at 4 PM Tehran time, it will mark the 102nd anniversary of the qari’s birth.
A number of Quran activists from Iran and other countries will join the program via video links to talk about the Egyptian legend’s recitations and achievements.
They include Iranian veteran Quran activist Seyed Mohsen Mousavi Baladeh, head of Lebanese Hermel Quranic Society Talal al-Masar, senior Lebanese qari Hussain Hamdan, Iraqi Quran recitation master Yahya al-Sahaf and top Syrian Ibtihal reciter Rizwan Darwish.
The program can be watched online on the Instagram pages of IQNA and Ahsan-ol-Hadith Institute at (iqna_video) and (ahsanolhadith_ir).
Born on January 20, 1920 in the city of Al Minshah in Sohag Governorate of Egypt, Minshawi was raised in a family of Quran reciters.
He learned the entire Quran by heart at the age of 8 and a year later began learning Quran recitation.
Minshawi soon become a prominent Qari both in the styles of Tahqiq and Tarteel.
He traveled to many countries, including Indonesia, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan and Sudan, for Quran recitation.
Minshawi died in 1969 at the age of 49.
Egypt is known in the Muslim world as a country where some of the best Quran reciters have emerged in recent decades.
They include prominent Qaris like Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Minshawi, Shahat Mohamed Anwar, and Mustafa Esmail.
