TEHRAN (IQNA) – A large number of pilgrims have visited an exhibition about Bahraini martyrs mounted in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala.

The expo was launched by the February 14 Youth Coalition on Sunday, concurrent with the Arbaeen season.

It features photos, posters and artworks about the martyrs of the Bahraini uprising.

The exhibition, which will run for five days, aims to raise awareness about the crimes committed against the people of Bahrain by the Manama regime.

Since February 2011, Bahrain, a key US ally in the Persian Gulf region, has been the scene of frequent peaceful protest rallies. The Bahraini people have been demanding that the Al Khalifa family relinquish power and let a just system representing all Bahrainis be established.

They have also been complaining against widespread discrimination against the Shia majority in the kingdom.

Manama has responded to the demonstrations with an iron fist. The authorities have detained rights campaigners, broken up major opposition political parties, revoked the nationality of several pro-democracy activists and deported those left stateless.
