AL-QUDS (IQNA) – Israeli forces have fatally shot a Palestinian teenager in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday morning, according to Palestinian health officials.

Palestinian teen Fawaz Hammad killed by Israeli forces

The director of Al-Razi Hospital in Jenin, Fawaz Hammad, informed the Palestinian news agency, Wafa, that Othman Atef Abu Kharj, aged 17, tragically lost his life after being struck in the head by gunfire.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Israeli forces stormed the town of Al-Zababdeh, located in the northern region of the occupied West Bank, and conducted home searches.

This operation resulted in a tense standoff between Palestinian residents and Israeli forces, who utilized live ammunition and tear gas.

This incident occurred just one day after a Palestinian man, who was protesting against Israeli forces, was shot in the head. A distressing video, widely circulated online, captured the moment when the man was walking away from Israeli forces and suddenly collapsed.

In a separate incident on Monday, an Israeli settler was killed in a shooting near the West Bank city of Hebron.

Recent months have witnessed an increase in violence in the West Bank, marked by a surge in deadly attacks by settlers and military operations against Palestinians.

According to Middle East Eye's count, at least 216 Palestinians, including 37 children, have lost their lives due to Israeli gunfire this year. In the West Bank and East Jerusalem combined, a total of 180 individuals have died, making 2023 one of the deadliest years in the occupied territories. Additionally, 36 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, at least 29 Israelis have been killed during Palestinian retaliatory operations in the same period.
