TEHRAN (IQNA) – The winners of the second Quran competition for Afghan citizens residing in Iran were honored in a ceremony held at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (RA) south of Tehran on Thursday.

The awarding ceremony was held after Maghrib and Isha prayers by the Mohammad Amin (PBUH) Dar-ol-Quran Center in cooperation with Tehran Province’s Bureau for Expatriates and Foreign Immigrants Affairs.

The center had organized the competition, which was attended by 300 Afghan nationals.

The Astan of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (AS) mausoleum in Rey, south of Tehran, hosted the event earlier this year.

Iran has hosted Afghan refugees since the late 1970s following the occupation of their country by the Soviet Union troops. Although many of those refugees have returned to their country voluntarily, there are still hundreds of thousands of Afghans in Iran.
