Osama Mohammad Najib’s move came in response to the benevolence of a Christian who recently donated some money for the construction of a mosque, according to an Egyptian daily.
Osama is a teacher of the Quran and public relations officer of a local department in Minya Governorate, north of the Arab country.
“When I heard a Christian contractor has given 200,000 Egyptian pounds for the construction of mosque, I said to myself ‘Is the reward of goodness aught save goodness’ (Quran, 55:60). Thus, I decided to donate half of my salary to a church.”
Islam in Egypt is the dominant religion with around 90 percent of the population following it.
Christianity is second biggest religion in the country. Egyptian Christians, nearly all of whom are Copts (adherents of the Coptic Orthodox Church or other Coptic churches), account for less than ten percent of the population.
