TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian cleric called on Quran reciters and memorizers to contemplate the teachings and concepts of the Holy Quran in addition to memorizing and reciting its verses.

In a message to the opening ceremony of the 11th nationwide Quran competition organized by Imam Ali (AS) Dar-ol-Quran Center, Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani said the young Quran activists attending the contest are advised to seize the opportunity of their youth years to read Quran interpretations and reflect on the meaning and concepts of the Quran.

He added that Quranic education does not end with learning memorization and recitation but continues forever.

Ayatollah Sobhani further hailed the growing trend of Quranic activities in Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, noting that, thanks to the Islamic Republic Establishment, there are now thousands of top Qaris and memorizers of the Quran in the country.

He also hailed Imam Ali (AS) Dar-ol-Quran Center for its achievements in Quranic fields, including organization of the nationwide Quran contest.

The men’s section of the Quran contest got underway at Noor Cultural Center in the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran, on Saturday.
