TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Abdullah Khatib Oghlu, the Qari of the Fatih grand mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, died at the age of 80.

His funeral was held in the city with the participation of representatives of the Muslim Scholars International Union, Quran activists and hundreds of ordinary people who loved his recitations.

According to the Daily Sabah newspaper, the union issued a message of condolence over the death of Khatib Oghlu describing him as a great sheikh and Quran reciter.

It said the prominent Qari spent his entire life in serving the Quran and teaching the Holy Book.

The Muslim Ummah lost one of its best members, the statement added, praying God to bestow His infinite mercy to his soul.

Sheikh Abdullah Khatib Oghlu served as the main Qari of the Fatih Mosque for 55 years.
