Two local imams and a professor of Islamic studies from UNCC-Charlotte shared their insight into the Muslim faith.
Not all commissioners thought it was a good idea.
"Over 1.6 billion Muslims around the world refrain from eating drinking smoking from dawn to sunset,” said Dr. Hadia Mubarak, a professor at UNCC.
"If I say I am a Christian, I have to love everybody regardless of the agenda, their religious beliefs or where they have come from,” said Commissioner Vilma Leake.
The proposal passed 6 to 3 with all Democrats voting yes and all Republicans voted no.
