Saeed Rahmani, who served as a member of the panel of judges in the second International Quran Competition for the Visually-Impaired, told IQNA that the blind have great capacities and potential in Quranic fields.
The progress made in the area of Quran memorization among the blind has been very good, he said, but added that in recitation, more work needs to be done.
"In Quran recitation, there is still a little gap (between the blind and others in terms of recitation skills) but, God willing, this gap will be filled in the future with the programs being held (such as Quran competitions”.
Rahmani underlined that efforts should be made to provide required facilities, such as educational means and braille copies of the Quran, for the visually-impaired.
Asked about the level of the international Quran competition for the visually-impaired, held in Tehran in late April, he said only two editions of the contest have been organized so far and a comparison of the two shows progress in the second edition.
"This year the number of the competition’s categories increased. Also, we saw improvement both in terms of quality and the number of participants.”
He said in order for better judgement, one needs to see more of the contest and assess it in an at least five-year period.
Rahmani thanked those who came up with the idea of holding such a Quranic program and all of those who contributed to it, congratulating them for the good job.
Elsewhere, the Quran expert said seeing the endeavors and accomplishments of visually-impaired Quran activists inspires him to make more efforts in Quranic fields.
